Blind Senior Dog Finds A Puppy To Be His Bestie And Show Him The Way

Charlie is an eleven-year-old golden retriever who is blind. Even without his eyesight, he has found more love than some of us ever will.

It was a few years ago when Charlie had to have both of his eyes removed due to glaucoma. His owners were happy to see him adapt well to the big lifestyle change.

Although in recent months, Charlie started to slow down – as older dogs do. His once overly excitable demeanor began to change, and his owners wished they could do something to bring that spark back.

And then, they found the golden ticket… a new golden puppy!

Charlie’s owners, Chelsea Stipe and her hubby, felt a new puppy could help bring joy back into their beloved dog’s life. Boy, oh boy, were they right!

Charlie began to change and perk up after the couple brought a new puppy named Maverick home.

The two adorable dogs were instant besties, well not exactly “instant.”

Charlie’s owners share on Instagram that Charlie was a little moody about the rambunctious puppy at first. Thankfully, it didn’t take long for him to warm up.

Now, Maverick’s boundless energy seems to inspire Charlie, helping him regain his enthusiasm and zest for life.

“Charlie has definitely been more playful and puppy-like since Maverick came around,” Stipe shared in an interview with the Dodo.

It had gotten to a point where Charlie wasn’t even interested in playing with new toys, but that’s changed now.

“We’d buy him toys and he wouldn’t think about playing with them. Now, they’re just constantly playing with each other.”

Maverick may be small, but he is wise for his young years. Stipe believes Maverick understands Charlie’s limitations and lack of sight and has learned to adapt and even help Charlie.

“He knows Charlie is different,” Stipe explained. “He’ll put toys in front of him. He’s very aware, when Charlie starts to move, to be on the lookout for him. When they walk together, Maverick helps keep Charlie in line.”

Even when Charlie isn’t up for playing and just wants to snooze, Maverick is right there with him. With Maverick around, Charlie is never alone.

Despite their age difference, these two have formed the strongest friendship. The two are practically inseparable.

“It’s amazing. They’re just such a great combo. They’re always together.”

Of course, Charlie is still an old man and it shows at times but Maverick has truly given Charlie’s life new meaning and excitement.

Proving that even when you’re old and the world looks dark, there’s always hope that newfound joy will arrive and change your life for the better.

It’s very likely that Maverick will add time to Charlie’s life – something any dog owner is happy to get with their four-legged bestie. After all, a renewed sense of happiness like this is good for the mind, body, and soul.

Plus, Charlie has a new built-in pillow – and there’s nothing like a cuddly puppy pillow!

Charlie’s owners explain that he was happy before they got Maverick, he just lost that playful, fun nature. Maverick has helped him get that back.

And now, Charlie has even more to be excited about with a new human baby in the house!

“Charlie’s an older dog. We used to think we could lose him any time,” Stipe shared. “But now, with Maverick, it’s like he got this jolt in him, this zest for life again. If he had eyes, I know there’d be a twinkle in them.”

Charlie had glaucoma which led to his double enucleation (both eyes removed). Now, Maverick is here to help Charlie around and Charlie is trying to teach Maverick manners. ? definitely a work in progress.”
