I am obsessed with Disney Princesses… take me to Disneyland and I’ll spend half the day chasing them around trying to get a pic.
No matter how much I love them, I’ll be the first to admit that they don’t offer the most realistic portrayal of a real-life female.
Disney Princesses are far too perfect for reality. Talented artist Andhika Muksin agrees, and so he has taken his obsession with Disney princesses and infused some reality into their perfection.
Muksin has been photoshopping Disney characters like Ariel and Pocahontas for a long time now. But this time, instead of putting the famous princesses into real life scenarios, he’s put a dose of reality into their world.
Say what? We’re talking unInstagrammable selfies, face swap on Snap Chat, and the reality of living underwater (yeah, we’re talking about you Ariel!).
1. What a real princess looks like when face timing while lying down
Muksin’s obsession with Disney began when he was just 5 or 6. Like so many of us, he became awestruck after watching a VHS tape of Alice in Wonderland.
2. Sleeping Beauty… sleeping like a real lady
“My [history] with Disney goes way back,” Andhika told Bored Panda. “It all started with a VHS tape of Alice in Wonderland I received as a birthday gift when I was about 5 or 6. I was obsessed with it. I would watch it almost every single day after school. Not long after that, the Disney Renaissance era started, the obsession became a bit out of control and cemented my status as a Disney fanboy.”
3. What a free fall of the wind really looks like
As Muksin grew older, he began creating fan art around his favorite characters. Instead of creating them as they are, he recreates them using his own unique style.
He has no particular method for choosing which characters to edit, instead he just gets random ideas in his head and then brings them to life.
4. Part Of Your Wo–
“These characters have stuck with me since childhood, so it kinda came naturally for me to make fan arts of them. But instead of ‘remaking’ them in my own aesthetic style, I put a naughty twist on them.”
5. Hop on a magic carpet they said. It’s easy they said.
6. Agrabah Night In
It didn’t take long before Muksin realized people were sharing his stuff on Instagram; that’s when he knew he was on to something.
7. Meet Swap White – Snow White on Snap Chat
“Over time, as I kept posting my Disney stuff, I noticed that more and more people re-shared them on their Instagram, and I got more and more positive DMs and comments as well. So I guess people liked them.”
8. When Two World’s Collide
The artist believes people connect so much with his artwork because as a society we all connect so strongly with Disney characters. After all, we grew up with them.
“I guess they blend so well with our everyday life because they are so well known,” he said.
9. That Front Facing Camera Though…
Ariel needs to work on her angle if she wants to snap a good selfie!
“I think that Disney characters blend into our everyday lives so well because lots of people, including myself, grew up with them. These characters are constantly revitalized through wide arrays of innovations.”
10. Holding your breath from Ursula’s lair got you like…
“From Broadways, Disneyland rides, merchandise, and now Live Action remakes. These things brought them to iconic status.”
11. A whole new woooooo
Jasmine’s first flight on a magic carpet… talk about scary!
12. Who wants to live under the sea after discovering pizza?
13. “I’m not a regular mom, I’m a cool mom…”
