Loving Monkey Defends Stray Puppy From Other Dogs And Acts Like Its Mom

This monkey in Rode, India adopted a stray puppy off the street, protecting it against other stray dogs and loving on it to no end.

The two appear to act like mother and child, with the monkey looking after the puppy throughout the day.

Locals originally spotted the rhesus macaque monkey with the puppy. Naturally, people instantly went bananas for the odd animal couple spotted around town.

At first, people couldn’t believe their eyes when they saw the puppy and monkey in one another’s company. The monkey was seen holding the puppy, feeding it, and even protecting it against stray dogs.

Locals were so in love with the pair that they started leaving them food – and to their delighted surprise, the monkey let the puppy have the first bite!

It’s not exactly clear how the pair became so close, but their inspiring love story has now been shared all around the world.

In the image below, you can see the monkey chasing off a stray dog, leaving his little puppy tucked behind a tire for safe keeping. Look at the teeth on that monkey – I sure wouldn’t mess with her!

The monkey cared for the little pup just like any mommy would

While there are few details from English media sources, Zee News shared the following:

“People who have seen them spoke of their strong mutual affection and described their bond as the most caring thing in the world – to take care of a puppy in danger and protect him like a parent. Their undying affection gives us a valuable lesson about relationships.”

Sadly, it is believed that the two have since been split up by forest department officials who have taken the puppy into their custody. This disappointing news comes from a roughly translated article, and no confirmation has been established on the matter.

To make matters worse: “The monkey who was quiet when carrying the puppy is now grieving and intimidating the public,” reports the article on dinakran.com.

According to this same news outlet, the Forest Department is hard at work trying to capture the monkey.

It’s unclear exactly why department officials have intervened so strongly with this case.

Unlike so many humans, animals do not discriminate against creatures that look and act differently than them. We have so much to learn from these gracious creatures – just look at the beautiful bond shared between this monkey and puppy to see what we mean.

Not too far away, in the neighborhood of Kareli in Allahabad, India, another macaque monkey found a puppy to love on and care for.

Locals said they saw the monkey pick up the black and tan puppy, who was a stray roaming the streets alone. Right away, the monkey started treating the puppy like its own baby.
