Virgo, Sagittarius, Libra, Aries… you know your sign and what it stands for. You also know what aspects of the sign align with your personality best.
But what if we told you there’s a whole new version of Zodiac signs worth considering – the Southern version!
Liz Dial, who specializes in social media and works for Red Clay Media’s brand, “It’s a Southern Thing,” has come up with the most hilarious and surprisingly accurate descriptions for zodiac signs with a southern twist.
Dial’s recent illustration series highlights what the revived constellations would look like if they were southern. Check them out for yourself below!
“It’s tough to describe what a ‘typical’ Southern person is because we’re such a diverse place,” Dial shared with Bored Panda in an interview.
Aries – Cicada
“Always ready to fight”
“The old stereotypes about Southerners couldn’t be further from the truth. We don’t all look the same and (believe it or not) we don’t all talk the same, either.”
Taurua – Bullfrog
“Stubborn. Will eat anything, including other bullfrogs.”
Dial said that the one thing that brings all Southerners together is respect.
“Manners are an important part of Southern culture and we’re taught at an early age to show kindness to everyone. We also all suffer through the same miserable and humid summers.”
This project didn’t come together overnight. Liz has been hard at work on it for a long time now.
Gemini – Coyote
“Is it a dog or a wolf? Can’t decide. Loves to be part of the pack.”
“I’ve always thought that the ‘The signs as ___’ are so funny, especially when someone has assigned random objects to the zodiac but they still somehow make sense and ring true for the signs,” she said.
Cancer – Possum
“Spooked easily; approach with caution. Plays dead when threatened.”
The goal with this series was to make it as relatable as possible.
“We made it relatable to our audience of mostly Southerners but also had it line up with the signs for astrology fans. We didn’t want it to be completely random, so the animals actually do have traits that are stereotypical for the signs.”
Leo – Black Bear
“Fearless leader. Walk backwards slowly if you make one angry.”
Despite how hard they tried to make the Southern version of the signs relatable, Dial was still surprised at just how well they pulled it off.
She is in awe that so many people have responded to the series saying things like “haha so me!” and “this is so true!”
“That made us feel like we had done it right,” she said.
“Keeps everything inside its shell. Will sniff out any drama.”
She compares astrology for Southerners to a fun personality quiz.
“Some people take it more seriously than others, but it’s an interesting way to look at yourself and the people in your life and everyone’s different responses to situations.”
Libra – Lightning Bug
“Fun, flirty, glowy. Inspiring poets since forever.”
The “we” Liz refers to is “It’s a Southern Thing,” which is a lifestyle and culture brand that is all about storytelling – a favorite Southern pastime.
“We talk about what it’s like to live in the South, the places we visit, the food we eat, and the music we listen to. We have a little something for everyone, and at the end of the day, we hope it makes them proud to call the South their home.”
Scorpio – Cottonmouth
“Strike first, ask questions later. You think its mouth is full of cotton? Nope. It’s venom.”
Sagittarius – Gator
“Voted loudest reptile. Doesn’t need your approval.”
Capricorn – Crawfish
“Will pinch you to avoid feelings. Pretends to be tough, but is just a tiny lobster.”
Aquarius – White-Tailed Deer
“Loyal and independent. Will run out in the street for no reason.”
Pisces – Catfish
“Master of camouflage. Confused most of the time.”
